"Now featuring embedded video tutorials!"
“Chord Shapes For Jazz Guitar” presents an easy to understand chordal method that provides the student with clear photos and illustrations. Endorsed by Bruce Foreman, Dave Stryker, Mundell Lowe, and Calvin Keys.
You don’t need to learn 10,000 Chords to master Jazz Guitar!
There are approximately 90 chord shapes in this book. Master these shapes and you will have acquired an excellent chord vocabulary!
The chords are divided into minor, dominant, and major categories based on a cycle of fourths. By following the suggestions in this volume you will improve your knowledge of the fretboard and obtain the skills necessary to create interesting chordal passages and transitions.
“This book is recommended for any student seeking to expand their chord knowledge quickly and effectively. It would be a welcome addition to any jazz guitar reference library.” ...Vince Lewis, Just Jazz Guitar Magazine
"Dan has come up with a great way to impart much of the most fundamental and important information about how to voice chords for jazz. Great work Dan!”
... Bruce Forman
“Dan Papaila is a great guitarist and in this book he has logically laid-out a great method to learn jazz guitar chords. The photos make it very easy for players of all levels to properly finger the chords. I highly recommend this book.”
...Dave Stryker
“This book should be a "must "for every serious guitar student.”
...Mundell Lowe
“Any serious guitar player should have this chord book. Dan has developed a modern harmonic-chordal fingering that is very important in playing jazz guitar.” …Calvin Keys

A Hidden Treasure Trove!
It took 4-days, but I finally received my copy of CHORD SHAPES FOR JAZZ GUITAR by Dan Papaila from . I opened up my volume and within 10-minutes realized that this was a truly special edition and that I needed to slice the binding and spiral bind it so that I could quickly open to whatever page I wished to study. This is a most unique book; and for someone who has studied the guitar for 40-years, I am taken by its simplicity and depth. Its logic is worth pursuing and I look forward to the knowledge I will gain from studying Mr. Papaila's magnum opus. Gittitt!
Nothing fancy, but does the trick!
About 90 chord shapes broken into 3 sections, Minor, Dominant and Major (II - V - I). Simply pick up the book a few times a week, follow the simple directions in the beginning and you will gain a much improved chord vocabulary. Simple book, but very efficient in what it does if you add it to your weekly practice regimen. Any style of guitarist could benefit from this too, not just a Jazz Kat.
Clear and Useful!
Dan is a fabulous teacher. This book reflects his very musical and practical approach to guitar instruction. Definitely worth having this book.
Great Way to Create Minor Ideas!
I was looking for a way to stimulate soloing ideas in minor keys and so many jazz studies gloss over that area or don't go into it very thoroughly. Dan STARTS his book with minor shapes all over the fret board. All I need to do is go to that section and throw one of Dan's shapes into the idea I'm working on and away I go. The first chord sentence alone is worth the price of the book. Buy it! Your playing will improve immediately.
